of Litchfield Fire Department
Permit to Open Burn Regulations
Remember:
It is illegal to openly burn anything without a fire permit.
The
Litchfield Fire Department will issue Open Burning permits Monday
through Friday at the Litchfield Town Office from 8:30 AM to 5:00
PM, and from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM on weekends at the Litchfield Central
Station under the following conditions:
Class 1 Fire Day Permit issued
Class 2 Fire Day Permit issued
Class 3 Fire Day Permit issued at discretion of fire official
Class 4 Fire Day No Permit issued
Class 5 Fire Day No Permit issued
*Incinerators or Burn Barrels are now illegal to use.*
*No permits will be issued on Holidays.*
With
a fire permit you may:
- Have
a recreational campfire
- Burn
grass on lawns
- Burn
fields (with prior inspection of a fire official)
- Burn
leaves, brush, deadwood and tree cuttings gathered from normal
property maintenance
- Burn
clean construction or demolition debris ( with prior inspection
of a fire official
Burning
of the following materials is prohibited:
- Household
trash
- Paper,
Cardboard, Tar paper or shingles
- Flammable
liquids such as Paints, Oils, Old fuel oils and Cleaning solvents

Plastics, Rubber, Tires or Styrofoam
- Metals
- Food
waste
- Chemicals,
including pressure treated wood, Fiber board and Particle board
- Cloths
and clothing material
- Dead
animals
Special
Reminders:
- You
should always call ahead to see if fire permits will be issued
- Permits
are only good for the day they are issued
- Permits
cannot be issued in advance except by the Chief or his designatee
- All
fires must be attended by an adult at all times
